Reservations & cancellation

- Reservations more than six weeks out require a minimum 2-night stay.
- During the Sturgis Rally (August 7–16, 2026) we require a three-night minimum stay.
- Check-in time is generally after 4 pm, though guests may sometimes access their cabins earlier if the cabin is ready for the day. Check-out time is 10 am.
- We require a valid credit card or debit card to make a reservation. Each cabin must be reserved with a valid credit card.
Cancellation
You must cancel your stay before 10 days of your intended arrival. If not, you are financially responsible for any nights, within your reservation, that we are not able to rebook.
Your card will be charged the daily rate (not the discounted Extended Stay Rate).
Rates, discount & taxes
Our rates vary depending on time of year, length of stay, and size of cabin. Every cabin’s published 2026 nightly rate is on the rates page.
- ESD (Extended Stay Discount): all of our cabins receive an automatic 10% discount for stays of three or more nights.
- Taxes: there is an 8.7% Hospitality Tax and a $2 nightly BID tax for the city of Custer.
- Sturgis Rally: August 7–16, 2026, with a three-night minimum.
Dogs
Most dogs are welcome at the Shady Rest Motel. However, because not everyone enjoys our canine guests in the same way, we enforce the following pet policy:
- Pets are not allowed to be left in the cabins without their owners.
- Pet owners are responsible for damages caused by their pets.
- Animals that shed are not allowed on any of the furniture.
- All solid pet waste must be disposed of in the outdoor garbage receptacles.
- There is an extra nightly charge of $10 per dog.
- There are to be no more than two pets per cabin.
- We are unable to accept cats or other animals at this time.
We are confident that those who travel with their dogs are responsible people and that their pets will be well-behaved. However, if there is any abuse of our cabins, property, or the enjoyment of our other guests, we reserve the right to resolve the issue however we best see fit.
Arriving, steps & parking
- All of our cabins have steps leading up to them. Some units have fewer stairs than others. It is best to let us know if you have accessibility issues so that we can match you to the cabin with the easiest access for you.
- Our parking and driveways are all gravel and sloped.
- We do not offer covered parking for either cars or motorcycles.
- Because of the high demand for space during the Rally, we are unable to guarantee on-site parking for trailers over 10 feet in length. The motel notes that trailers may be parked on the side of the paved city streets near the motel (Gordon, 4th and Washington) as long as they do not interfere with traffic. If you are unsure, ask us.

In the cabin & on the grounds
Each cabin has a unique floor plan with an equipped kitchenette, dining area, sleeping quarters, private bathroom, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and air-conditioning/heat.
- The kitchenettes in each unit are equipped with basic cookware and table settings, as well as a dedicated charcoal grill and grilling implements. Cookware, tableware, and hand and dish soap are complimentary with your stay.
- If you need additional options for cooking, in addition to what is stocked in your cabin, we are happy to try to accommodate your requests and to provide the requested items.
- We provide bathroom towels for your use in the cabins, and spa towels for use in our hot tub. You will need to bring your own towels for use off site.
- Hot tub on the grounds.
- Pool: the city pool is off site, within walking distance.
- Every cabin has a deck or covered porch, and there is a view of downtown Custer.
